Cramer Lakes
Sawtooth Mountains
Stanley, ID

This backpacking retreat leads you to the heart of the Sawtooth Mountains located near Stanley, Idaho over high elevation passes, alpine basins and meadows covered with wildflowers, rugged mountains spires towering above pristine lakes, and a sky full of stars. Participants will experience alpine lake swims, river rock slides, crossing streams and experiencing remote areas all to themselves. Participants must be physically capable of carrying a 30-40 pound backpack while hiking 5-10 miles each day. On the last day of the retreat, guests will enjoy soothing their sore muscles in a private natural geothermal hot spring overlooking the mountain range they just spent the past four days in. We are happy to be partnering with Sawtooth Mountain Guides to this beautiful location.

What to expect on this retreat

Day 1

We will meet everyone at the Sawtooth Mountain Guide office as we have our orientation and gear check. We will distribute your gear and pack our snacks for our first hike in. We will be taking a shuttle boat across Red Fish Lake as you take in what will only be a taste of what you will experience for 4 days! We will hike around 4 miles to our first basecamp as we enjoy a delicious meal near the river and the night sky hovering over us as we enjoy a campfire all together.

Day 2

We will wake up to sunrise pouring into the canyon over rugged peaks as we enjoy breakfast and warm drinks and a navigation lesson with a mini topography class. We will then pack up camp to make our approach continuing through Red Fish canyon heading towards the Cramer Lakes. We will enjoy our hike as we experience a steady uphill grade. As we make it to our camp for the remainder of the time, we will take our time setting up and relaxing, you can even jump right into the lakes or play in the waterfall minutes away.

Day 3

Starting the day with warm drinks and cooked breakfast is the ultimate wake up call as you open your tent to jewel blue skies, fresh air and a nice stretch. We will prepare our day packs and lunch as we get ready to explore many alpine lakes, perfect for a swim, enjoying time in a basin filled with more wildflowers than you count and making our way to see views of Temple and the west face of Mt. Cramer. When we have all had enough time to ponder and experience this beautiful scenery, we will hike back to camp for down time, swimming, and make dinner to finish the evening with fireside chats.

Day 4

We will have a relaxing wake up with breakfast and warm drinks as we pack up camp and prepare descend to our last campsite to Flat Rock junction and Red Fish Creek 5 miles away. We will enjoy our laughs and story telling on this hike out as we come to natural rock slides and beautiful clear water where fish will swim up to you as you become apart of these natural features. We will make our last meal as we participate in our last campfire fireside and plan to head out the next day.

Day 5

Waking up and putting on a pack that is half the weight is sometimes the best feeling during a multi day trip as this one. However, feelings of bittersweet will come over you as we take in the final moments of this beautiful area which will always have a place in your heart. We will take the boat shuttle across Red Fish Lake and head back to the Sawtooth Mountain Guide office as we turn in our gear and prepare for our private session at Mountain Village Hot Springs. We usually head into town to enjoy a delicious burger, fries and an ice cold drink!

"I respected and enjoyed our leaders. They were tuned into the emotional state of each of the group members. They were very good at creating a positive, fun, accepting atmosphere. They supported and trusted each other. They navigated effectively. Were properly certified and had plans in place so I felt safe when it came to health issues or emergencies."
